Virtual web hosting

The CSC has commissioned a new virtual web hosting facility for securely hosting all web sites of the form which are not maintained by CSC. Each such web site will be securely maintained as a virtual site on the same server. The CSC would like to consolidate all such web sites to the new facility by Feb 15, 2011. Maintainers of such sites are requested to get in touch with the CSC web group and move their web sites to the new facility before the deadline.

VPN for Faculty/students

We support VPN (virtual private network) for connecting to the IITD internal LAN from outside IITD.  We use OpenVPN, and run an OpenVPN server on (for faculty/retfaculty/emeritus) and (for part-time msr/ part-time phd students). VPN access is granted only to faculty/retfaculty/emeritus and part-time msr/part-time phd students. (They can request from VPN users are advised to set up their VPN in IITD before going out of the campus to try to use it. The certificate-key pairs will not be sent by email under any circumstances.

NTP servers

The CSC is releasing its Network Time Protocol servers for use by all.  System administrators of servers and clients in IITD can set and as the time servers within IITD.  These time servers are synchronized with standard internet time servers with time drift less than a few miliseconds. 

Please check the documentation of your operating system for help on setting the time servers in your machine.

User web pages

The CSC has commissioned a new server for hosting web pages of all faculty and PhD students. Users who may already have web pages on the old (now renamed as are requested to move/copy their pages from  to Your pages will become visible both internally, and externally with a url where userid is your ldap id (email id). Note that the will be shutdown on 10th March 2011. 

To facilitate  limited access from only within IITD CSC has commissioned a separate web server where all users of IITD can have their personal web pages. Users can create their web pages in a directory/folder called private_html under their CSC homefolder. These web pages can then be accessed from within IITD through the URL
